We ensured that Jamaica is respected on the global stage by
building strong ties with other countries and strengthening
our connections with Jamaicans living abroad. From visa-free
travel to international partnerships, we positioned Jamaica as a
powerful and connected nation.
Here is what we have done:
● Introduced a new National Diaspora Policy, and created both a
Global Jamaica Diaspora Council and a Youth Council — giving
Jamaicans overseas more say and stronger connections to home.
● Hosted four major Diaspora Conferences, including the 10th
biennial event, bringing together thousands of Jamaicans from
around the world to share ideas and support development.
● Secured major international support for Jamaica’s health care,
security, and agriculture from global partners, including grants,
resources, and technical assistance.
● Finalised visa-free agreements with countries like Ghana, Kenya,
and the Dominican Republic, making it easier for Jamaicans to
travel and do business abroad.
● Established diplomatic relations with 10 new countries, expanding
Jamaica’s presence in Europe, Africa, and the Paci昀椀c.
● Launched an Economic Diplomacy Programme to help Jamaica
attract more investment and promote trade opportunities overseas.
● Improved consular services for Jamaicans worldwide, including a
new operations manual to standardise and improve service.
● Secured Jamaican seats in key international organisations, such
as UNESCO, CERD, CRPD, WADA, and the IMO, ensuring Jamaica
has a voice in important global decisions.
