helping to cut down on pollution in our streets, rivers, and seas.
● Partnered with others to reduce garbage 昀氀owing into
Kingston Harbour, protecting our marine life and the 昀椀shing
industry.
● Planted over 3 million trees and brought back mangroves
along the coast to help 昀椀ght erosion and 昀氀ooding.
● Put legal protection on 14 key forest areas, including parts of
the Cockpit Country, helping to preserve our natural heritage.
● Protected 15 per cent of our marine areas and almost 25 per
cent of our land, putting Jamaica among the leaders in the
region for environmental conservation.
● Set up a special Rivers Unit at NEPA, and trained river wardens
to help keep our waterways healthy and clean.
● Launched the Caribbean’s 昀椀rst dual-polarisation Doppler
radar system, giving us better weather tracking and early
warning for storms.
● Created a national Weather App so that Jamaicans can get
real-time weather alerts right on their phones.
● Built over 1,800 small check dams, which help slow down
昀氀oodwaters and protect communities during heavy rains.
● Bought a special tree relocator machine, so we can save
mature trees during roadworks and development instead of
cutting them down.
