● More than 250,000 new jobs created. More Jamaicans
are working than ever before.
● Lowest unemployment rate in our history. We brought it
down from 13.7 per cent to just 3.5 per cent.
● Minimum wage has been raised to the highest level
ever. In 2016, it was J$6,200. Now, it is J$16,000 - a big step
forward for low-income workers.
● Stronger savings and a stable dollar. Jamaica now
has over US$5.7 billion in reserves, helping protect our
economy from global shocks.
● Prices kept steady. In昀氀ation stayed between 4 and 5 per
cent, so your money holds its value better.
● Better job security for public workers. We made almost
14,000 government contract workers permanent.
● Government workers are paid better. We reformed the
system to pay fairly and keep good talent in public service.
● Consistent economic growth. We grew steadily for 20
quarters before COVID-19, and for 13 straight quarters
after.
● Jamaica is praised around the world. International
groups, such as the UN and the World Bank, now view
Jamaica as a model for how to revitalise an economy
effectively.
● First-ever local currency bond overseas. We raised
money for the country without adding pressure on
taxpayers.
● Business con昀椀dence is at an all-time high. More people
are investing and spending because they trust where the
country is heading.
● Credit ratings improved. The world views Jamaica as
more 昀椀nancially stable, which means better investment
terms.
