Farmers, 昀椀shers, and miners are the backbone of Jamaica. We
invested in the people who grow our food, protect our environment,
and power our industries by improving roads, giving access to better
tools, and making it easier to earn and expand.
Here is what we have done so far:
● We achieved the highest crop yields in over a decade,
resulting in more food grown locally and improved food
security for everyone.
● Repaired and rebuilt over 700 farm roads, so farmers can
get to market faster and with less spoilage.
● Trained and supported over 8,000 young people through
the Youth in Agriculture Programme, helping a new
generation get into farming and agribusiness.
● Expanded irrigation systems in places like Parnassus,
Essex Valley, and Pedro Plains bene昀椀ting over 3,000 farmers
with reliable water.
● Set up the National Fisheries Authority, and provided
昀椀shers with training, tools, and safety equipment to grow
their businesses.
● Launched Jamaica’s 昀椀rst insurance plan for farmers
and 昀椀shers, with over 3,500 already registered, offering
protection during tough times.
● Removed GCT on imported breeding animals so that
farmers can improve their stock at a lower cost.
● Cut GCT on farm supplies like fencing, water tanks, and vet
equipment, saving money for farmers.
● Started the Dairy Equipment Lease programme, and gave
RADA new tractors and backhoes to support local farmers
better.
