● Launched Jamaica’s 昀椀rst Social Pension, giving support to
citizens aged 75 and older who were not receiving NIS or other
help.
● Raised salaries for social workers by 400 per cent, helping them
better serve communities and protect those in need.
● Opened the country’s 昀椀rst 3 government-run domestic
violence shelters, with space for children and full services for
women in crisis.
● Passed stronger laws against domestic violence and introduced
new protections against sexual harassment.
● Set up hotlines and a support unit, making it easier to report
abuse and get counselling.
● Started new programmes to support young mothers and
fathers, helping them stay in school, 昀椀nd work, and raise their
children.
● Expanded care for the homeless and most vulnerable, building
new shelters, drop-in centres, and upgrading in昀椀rmaries.
● Provided J$1 billion in Solidarity Grants to help 50,000
Jamaicans facing hardship, real help for those most in need.
● Held nearly 50 job fairs across the country to connect Jamaicans
with employment opportunities.
● Passed the Disabilities Act and launched the I Am Able
campaign to promote inclusion and equal opportunity.
● Opened the 昀椀rst government-run Therapeutic Centre for
children with special needs.v
● Started expanding special needs assessment services to more
parishes outside of Kingston.
● Introduced paid paternity leave for public sector workers so that
fathers can support their families from day one.
● Increased maternity leave for public sector workers from 40 to
60 days, giving mothers more time to recover and bond with their
newborns.
