● Made it easier to get student loans. Students no longer
need a guarantor to apply through the Students’ Loan
Bureau (SLB).
● Lowered interest rates and fees on student loans and
increased the number and size of SLB grants, especially for
students from poor backgrounds and wards of the state.
● Removed all fees for HEART Trust courses, and added
new training programmes with stipends to help young
people learn job-ready skills.
● Expanded training in science, technology, engineering,
arts, and math (STEAM) with new labs and equipment in
schools.
● Created 2,000 scholarships for science and tech
teachers in partnership with MICO and UTECH.
● Increased the number of classroom assistants and
shadows to 759, and raised their pay by 50 per cent, giving
more support to students who need it.
● Improved the school feeding programme so PATH
students now get meals 昀椀ve days a week.
● Distributed over 200,000 tablets to students, and
gave laptops or vouchers to teachers to help with online
learning.
● Increased pay for teachers and principals helping to
attract and keep quali昀椀ed educators in the classroom.
● Trained over 11,000 teachers in modern teaching
techniques and leadership development.
● Strengthened school leadership through support from
the National College for Educational Leadership and the
Jamaica Teaching Council.
